Meet The Team

Sophie Grey is a former model, professional cook, artisan baker, café owner, food consultant, cookery teacher, gardener, wife and mother.  Her love of food began at school, where she started cooking for 6th form parties and then later at university she organised dinner parties for over 20 people a time, using recipes from Cordon Bleu cookery books. In 1990 she landed her first professional catering job — preparing a birthday party celebration for Simon Cowell and his 100 guests. Since then she has been catering for the film, fashion , property and other businesses. Visit website

Sophie went on to open an artisan bakery, Crazy Baker, in 2009 feeling that this was a natural progression given her passion and knowledge for fine quality food, bread and cakes,. Since then she has been delivering wholesale bread and pastries to restaurants and cafés throughout London and the South East, including her own Crazy Baker cafe where customers can also enjoy her delicious homemade cooking.

Regulars at the Crazy Baker café recognise Karen’s smiling face on the rare occasions she tears herself away from her hard working bakery kitchen. Born in London’s Fulham, Karen is proud of her Indian heritage and makes exceptional curries and Naan bread!

Leaving school at 16, the incredibly bright Karen got her first job at the renowned Lindys bakery. She was taught everything about baking bread and making exquisite patisseries from Mr Lindy himself.

She then ran her own bakery for 10 years and when this ended another door opened in the form of Crazy Baker. Initially she answered a Gumtree ad to help Sophie Grey test recipes for her first book, “Let’s Make Whoopies” and although Karen was reluctant to be hired full time, when Sophie’s head baker left she managed to persuade Karen to take his place.

After five years their partnership was formalised with a share in the company and today, together they successfully run the Crazy Baker artisan bakery. Once you get to know this former party animal, you’ll discover a wicked sense of fun and a wry sense of humour, as well as enjoying her fantastic breads and pastries.
